Twenty-eight individuals, including 13 minors, were brought before a prosecutor in Thessaloniki on Thursday, accused of being members of a violent far-right criminal organization that operated in Thessaloniki under the name “Nationalist Youth of Thessaloniki,” also known as “DEFEND SALONICA.”
Additionally, reports indicate that some members of the group had already come under police scrutiny in September 2021, when leftist university students were attacked during an anti-racism protest outside a school in western Thessaloniki.
Based on current evidence, police believe the 38-year-old woman and a 36-year-old man — in whose name the apartment linked to the case was rented — were manipulated into playing minor roles.
Efforts are underway to locate the individual who actually constructed the explosive, as investigators have ruled out the possibility that the deceased woman had the technical expertise to do so.
The area has since been cordoned off as investigators from the the Organized Crime Directorate work alongside bomb disposal units to collect evidence from the scene.
