A 12-year-old boy is in critical condition after a serious road accident involving an electric scooter in the Athens suburb of Aspropyrgos.

According to police, the accident happened on Wednesday morning when the child, who was riding an electric scooter, collided with a vehicle driven by a 27-year-old man at an intersection. The exact circumstances of the crash remain under investigation.

The boy suffered severe head injuries, fractures, and chest trauma. He was initially taken to Thriasio Hospital and is expected to be transferred to a children’s hospital in Athens for specialised treatment.

Friend Recounts Scene After the Crash

A friend of the injured child described the moments following the accident, saying he rushed to the scene after hearing what had happened.

“I saw him lying on the road unconscious, with a serious head injury,” the boy said.

According to his account, the 12-year-old was riding at high speed, was not wearing a helmet, and reportedly failed to stop before colliding with a passing van.

The friend added that the child usually wore a helmet while riding his scooter, but not on the day of the accident.

Emergency medical crews arrived shortly afterwards and transported the injured boy to hospital, where he remains in intensive care.
