2 Teens Killed in High-Speed Motorcycle Crash on Lesbos

Latest fatal accident adds to mounting road death toll across Greece following a series of deadly crashes in recent months

Another fatal road accident was reported in Greece on Monday, with the latest tragedy unfolding on the eastern Aegean Island of Lesbos where two teenagers, aged 18 and 16, were killed after their motorcycle veered off the road and crashed into a utility pole at high speed.

The victims died instantly in the crash, which occurred near the Panagiouda cemetery area, about five kilometers north of the island capital of Mytilene.

According to initial reports, the two teenagers were traveling from Afalona toward Mytilene after departing from the beach area of Thermi, where they lived.

The circumstances surrounding the crash were not immediately clear and an investigation is underway.

Greece has recorded a succession of fatal traffic accidents over the past three months, including deadly collisions involving motorcycles, young drivers and heavy vehicles on major highways and provincial roads. Authorities have repeatedly warned about excessive speed, dangerous overtaking and low helmet use among younger riders, particularly on islands and regional road networks where infrastructure deficiencies remain a long-standing concern.

The deaths came days after a motorcyclist was killed on Athens’ Attiki Odos ring tollway following a collision involving a police vehicle and a truck, along with separate fatal crashes in Rhodes, Ioannina and western Greece.
