Μake us preferred on Google A major search-and-rescue operation remains underway off the Greek island of Symi as authorities continue searching for one missing man after eight people from a sailing yacht ended up in the sea.
According to the Athens-Macedonian News Agency (AMNA), seven of the eight people have now been located and rescued. All those recovered are reported to be in good health.
The first survivors, a man and a woman, managed to reach the Panormitis area on Symi. Greek Coast Guard vessels and a Hellenic Air Force helicopter then launched an extensive search-and-rescue operation.
Shortly before midnight, another woman reached the shore by swimming and was later located by a fishing boat.
Just after 1:20 a.m., a Greek Coast Guard patrol vessel rescued four more people, bringing the total number of survivors to seven.
Search efforts are now focused on locating the remaining missing person, a man. Since the early morning hours, a Greek Coast Guard vessel and a Hellenic Air Force helicopter have continued searching the area, with the operation still ongoing.
