23-Year-Old Arrested for 72 km/h E-Scooter Ride

A young rider was detained after police found him travelling at extreme speed on an electric scooter along a major Athens avenue. Officers say the vehicle’s speed limiter had been altered, allowing dangerous levels of performance on a busy urban road

Police in Athens have arrested a 23-year-old man after he was caught riding an electric scooter at dangerously high speed on one of the city’s busiest roads.

The incident took place on a major coastal avenue in the Greek capital, where traffic officers from the local road police unit stopped the rider during routine checks.

Scooter modified to exceed legal speed limits

According to authorities, the young man—reportedly of Egyptian origin—was travelling in the right-hand lane in the direction of the port city of Piraeus when he was clocked at 72 km/h.

Officials said the electric scooter’s speed limiter had been tampered with, allowing it to reach nearly three times the maximum speed permitted for such vehicles under traffic regulations.

The 23-year-old was taken into custody at the scene and is expected to appear before a public prosecutor in Athens.
