A 24-year-old woman in Thessaloniki has been sentenced to a two-year prison term, convertible to 10 euros per day, and had her driver’s license suspended for one year after crashing into 15 parked cars, a store, and a kiosk in the Toumba neighborhood.
The incident occurred in the early hours of January 16, 2026, following a night out with friends. Police determined through a breathalyzer test that she was under the influence of alcohol, leading to an administrative fine.
The woman was found guilty of dangerous driving without any mitigating factors. The court granted an appeal with a suspensive effect, meaning the sentence will not be enforced while the appeal is pending.
In her defense, the driver claimed she had consumed only one drink and felt capable of driving. She attributed the sudden, uncontrolled movement of her vehicle to a mechanical malfunction, stating, “Something happened with the accelerator, and the car started moving on its own.”
She also apologized to the owners of the damaged vehicles and businesses. Her legal team noted that she has already taken steps to compensate those affected for the property damage.
