An investigation is underway to identify three bodies recovered from the Aegean Sea, amid strong indications they belong to a father and his two young daughters who went missing following a jet ski accident off the Turkish coast.
The family tragedy began on Tuesday afternoon near Bodrum, Turkey, when the father and his two young daughters were riding a jet ski off the coast. Under circumstances that remain unclear, the watercraft overturned, throwing them into the sea.
The children’s mother reported them missing to Turkish authorities, triggering an extensive search operation. Greece’s Hellenic Coast Guard was immediately notified and launched a large-scale search across the wider maritime area.
Within days, search efforts led to the recovery of three bodies.
The body of a 7-year-old girl was first discovered on the Greek island of Kos. Shortly afterward, authorities found the body of a 5-year-old girl in an advanced state of decomposition near Kardamena, also on Kos, as well as the body of an adult man in the waters off the nearby island of Tilos.
The Hellenic Coast Guard is closely examining the possible connection between the three recoveries.
Investigators are awaiting the results of DNA testing, which are expected to determine whether the victims were members of the same family and provide definitive answers in the case.
