Greece is bracing for a major weather event this week, as heavy rain, thunderstorms, and snow in mountainous areas are expected to impact much of the country starting Wednesday.
Meteorologist Theodoros Kolydas reported that rainfall will first appear in western Greece on Tuesday afternoon, intensifying on Wednesday and gradually spreading nationwide. Snowfall is expected in the mountainous regions of central and northern Greece.
African Storm Brings Strong Winds
A low-pressure system will form off the northern coast of Africa, near Libya’s Gulf of Sirte, on Wednesday. This system is expected to bring severe thunderstorms and strong southerly winds to Greece through the end of the week.

The areas forecast to experience the heaviest rainfall and storms include:
- Western Greece, particularly regions near the Ionian Sea
- Southern Peloponnese
- Thessaly
- Euboea and eastern Central Greece
- Attica (Athens region)
- The Sporades islands
- Central Macedonia
- Eastern Aegean islands
- Cyclades and Dodecanese islands
- Crete
Residents are advised to monitor local weather updates as the storm develops and take necessary precautions, particularly in flood-prone and mountainous areas.
