The Greek islands of Alonnisos and Tinos have been placed under a state of emergency due to water shortages, following a decision signed by the Minister of Environment and Energy, Stavros Papastavrou.
The emergency measures will remain in place for three months and were approved following the agreement of the Regulatory Authority for Waste, Energy and Water (RAAEY) and the Secretary General for the Aegean and Island Policy.

The decision comes as the islands face the effects of water scarcity, requiring additional measures to address the situation.
At the same time, the state of emergency already in place due to water shortages on Meganisi, an island in the Ionian Sea near Lefkada, has been extended for another three months.
The measures concern the management of water resources as authorities respond to the ongoing challenges caused by reduced water availability.
