Greek police have made a new arrest in connection with the fatal stabbing of a 20-year-old man in Thessaloniki last Thursday. 

Authorities confirmed that a 19-year-old friend of the victim has been arrested and remains in custody. He is expected to appear before a prosecutor on Wednesday. The suspect faces charges including forming a criminal group, causing dangerous bodily harm, and possession of objects capable of inflicting injury.

Main Suspect to Testify

Meanwhile, a 23-year-old man accused of carrying out the fatal stabbing is scheduled to testify before investigators on Tuesday. He faces charges of intentional homicide, as well as illegal possession and use of a weapon.

Police believe additional individuals may have been involved in the violent confrontation that led to the young man’s death. The investigation is ongoing as authorities continue collecting evidence.

Possible Link to Sports Fan Violence

Prosecutors are also examining whether the case is connected to sports-related fan violence. According to a representative of the Thessaloniki Police Officers Union, the charges filed by the prosecutor were based on legislation concerning sports-related offenses, suggesting a possible fan-related background to the incident.

Officials also warned about the increasing use of knives in violent incidents among young people. According to police representatives, knives are easily accessible and have become one of the most commonly used weapons in such attacks.

The deadly stabbing, which occurred in the coastal district of Kalamaria, continues to be investigated as authorities seek to determine the full circumstances behind the killing and identify any additional suspects.
