Passenger traffic at Athens International Airport continued to grow in July, with the airport serving 3.93 million travelers during the month, according to official figures released by the airport operator.
The July total represented a 4.7% increase compared with the same month in 2025, despite what the operator described as a continuously evolving geopolitical environment.
Both domestic and international passenger traffic posted year-on-year gains. Domestic traffic rose by 3.4%, while international passenger traffic increased by 5.3% compared with July 2025.
Passenger Traffic Continues to Grow in 2026
During the first seven months of 2026, Athens International Airport handled a total of 19.68 million passengers, marking a 4.5% increase over the corresponding period in 2025.
Domestic passenger traffic rose by 4.7% during the January-July period, while international traffic increased by 4.4%.
Flight activity also continued to expand. Between January and July 2026, Athens International Airport recorded 165,771 flights, up 3.8% from the same period a year earlier.
Domestic flights increased by 4.7%, while international flights rose by 3.3%.
Tourism Trends Point to Steady Growth
According to the latest figures from the Institute of the Greek Tourism Confederation (INSETE), international air arrivals to Greece increased by 3.8% during the January-June period, reaching 10.7 million travelers.
Although the pace of growth has moderated compared with previous years, the data indicate that Greece’s tourism market continues to expand while entering what is described as a more mature phase of development.
Higher-spending source markets made a particularly strong contribution. Tourism receipts from the United Kingdom increased by 50.9%, while revenue from visitors from the United States rose by 19.4%. Receipts also increased from Italy, up 27.6%, and France, up 13.3%. In contrast, tourism receipts from Germany remained nearly unchanged, edging up just 0.3%.
