Athens is entering a new era of urban mobility with the launch of “ATHENS MOVE,” a municipal public transport initiative featuring 17 electric buses operating on four new routes. The system aims to cover gaps in local transportation, reduce reliance on private vehicles, and improve accessibility across the city.
The new routes, designed following a city transport study and approved by Greece’s main transit authority (OASA), will span 40 kilometers and include 185 stops. The €11.2 million investment is funded through the Social Climate Fund and integrates modern charging infrastructure along with fully accessible bus stops.
Key Routes of ATHENS MOVE
- Neos Kosmos – Petralona – Kerameikos
- Kato Patisia – Sepolia – Kerameikos
- Promponas – Ano Patisia – Kypseli
- Attiki – Kypseli
Mayor Haris Doukas emphasized that the network is designed to complement the metro and existing bus services. “We are creating a modern and inclusive system that gives residents a practical alternative to private cars, particularly benefiting vulnerable citizens,” he said.
Benefits for Citizens and the Environment
