Athens Metro commuters faced significant delays on Monday morning, December 29, after a train on Line 3 became immobilized inside a tunnel under unknown circumstances.

The disruption mainly affected the Airport–Doukissis Plakentias–Municipal Theatre route, with wait times exceeding 30 minutes. Services in the opposite direction, from Piraeus toward Plakentias and the airport, were also impacted.

Dozens of passengers were left waiting on platforms, frustrated as this fault adds to a series of technical issues on the Blue Line, with at least three similar incidents reported in the past three months.

Authorities have yet to specify when the train will be removed and normal service restored. Commuters are advised to allow extra travel time and consider alternative routes until the situation is resolved.
