Athens was awash in red as more than a thousand Santa Clauses flooded the city center for the festive Athens Santa Run 2025.

Kotzia Square transformed into a sea of red, welcoming participants of all ages to a celebration that blended sport, joy, and solidarity. Just after 10:00 a.m., the starting signal was given by the Mayor of Athens, Haris Doukas, sending the vibrant crowd streaming through the streets of the capital.

A Festive Run Through the Heart of the City
Dressed in the iconic costumes of children’s beloved Saint, runners covered a 2.8-kilometer route through some of Athens’ most emblematic landmarks. Starting from City Hall, the human “river of red” passed through Monastiraki, Thissio, and Omonia, before returning to Kotzia Square for the finish line, where participants were rewarded with commemorative medals.

Santa Clauses Athens

“We ran for a good cause and filled Athens with Santa Clauses. Santa Run, 2.8 kilometers, more than 1,000 participants—and I think we kicked off our festive program in a very dynamic way. Many wonderful events are following,” Mayor Haris Doukas said. “We thank everyone, wish you happy holidays, and look forward to seeing you at the Christmas Market here in Kotzia Square.”

The atmosphere was unmistakably festive, with the Christmas Market at Kotzia Square open to the public. Music set the pace throughout the event, with Rock FM radio producers energizing the crowd, while earlier the Athens Municipal Philharmonic Orchestra provided a musical backdrop at Omonia Square.

Organized by OPANDA in collaboration with the Offline Running Association, the event also carried a strong social message. Part of the proceeds from the celebration will be donated to the City of Athens Reception and Solidarity Center (KYADA), offering meaningful support to residents in need during the holiday season.
