Traffic police in the Attica region carried out an extensive weekend operation targeting drivers under the influence of alcohol, resulting in hundreds of violations and several arrests.

Between early Saturday morning and early Monday, authorities conducted 11,679 breathalyzer checks on cars and motorcycles. Of these, 224 drivers were found to be above the legal alcohol limit. Fourteen drivers were arrested for driving under the influence at a criminal level, defined as having blood alcohol content above 0.60 mg/l in exhaled air.

In addition to the arrests, 49 drivers tested between 0.41 and 0.60 mg/l, 129 drivers between 0.25 and 0.40 mg/l, and 32 drivers between 0.10 and 0.24 mg/l — a category that applies to certain groups such as new drivers and motorcyclists.

The operation underscores the ongoing risks of alcohol-related driving incidents in Attica and reflects law enforcement’s efforts to improve road safety in the region.
