Greek law enforcement agents arrested a 45-year-old foreigner at the Athens International Airport (AIA) who was trying to smuggle thirty-two kilograms of cannabis into the country.

The suspect, believed to be a member of an international criminal organization, was involved in the illegal importing of skunk (strains of cannabis with very high levels of THC).

According to a police report, officers from the narcotics division managed to detect and ultimately apprehended the suspect after a thorough profiling process, and utilizing relevant intelligence passed on to them. The man had landed in Greece from a region in Thailand.

Following a luggage search at the arrivals area in the airport, authorities discovered 31 bags containing a total of thirty-two kilograms of cannabis and 600 grams of unprocessed cannabis (skunk).

Police also seized a mobile phone device. The suspect was lead before the competent prosecutorial office.
