Farmers from Crete are travelling to Athens on Thursday for a key meeting with Greece’s Deputy Prime Minister Kostis Hatzidakis and the Minister of Rural Development Konstantinos Tsiaras, as island-wide protests and blockades continue.
A delegation of farmers—accompanied by the Regional Governor of Crete, Stavros Arnaoutakis, and local MPs—is scheduled to meet government officials at the Maximos Mansion at 5 p.m. The group has already submitted its demands to Athens and is seeking concrete answers, according to local outlet Patris.
Meanwhile, farmers and livestock breeders are maintaining multiple protest sites across the island. In Heraklion, demonstrators are occupying the building housing the Decentralized Administration of Crete and the regional tax authority. In Chania, groups continue to block access to the “Ioannis Daskalogiannis” Airport and hold positions along the island’s main highway, the VOAK, near Megala Chorafia.
Following the discussions in Athens, farmers say they will reassess their next steps based on the government’s response.
