Greece will turn its clocks back one hour this weekend as daylight saving time comes to an end, giving residents an extra hour of sleep overnight Saturday.

At 4 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 25, clocks should be turned back to 3 a.m., marking the country’s return to standard time for the winter months.

The change follows the system used across the European Union, under which clocks move forward on the last Sunday in March and back on the last Sunday in October.

The switch takes place overnight from Saturday to Sunday to minimize disruption to travel, public transportation and daily life.

Why is the time changing so early this year?

This year’s change comes on Oct. 25, the earliest possible date for the return to standard time under the last-Sunday-of-October rule.

The timing is simply a result of how the days fall on the 2026 calendar. The change last occurred this early in 2020.

Most smartphones and other electronic devices will update automatically. However, people should check clocks and devices before going to bed on Saturday, Oct. 24, as some will need to be adjusted manually.

The key change: when the clock reaches 4 a.m. Sunday, it goes back to 3 a.m.
