A dramatic police chase unfolded in the early hours of Sunday on the streets of Heraklion, Crete, when a 52-year-old man attempted to evade law enforcement while driving under the influence.

According to local reports, the man ignored a police checkpoint and sped off, committing multiple traffic violations including running stop signs and red lights, and driving against oncoming traffic. The pursuit ended when the driver crashed into a police patrol car, bringing the chase to a halt.

Authorities conducted an alcohol test, revealing that the man’s blood alcohol level was 2 mg/l—eight times the legal limit of 0.25 mg/l. Further investigation confirmed that he did not possess a valid driver’s license.

The driver was issued administrative fines totaling €4,000 and faces criminal charges for dangerous driving, driving under the influence, and violating rules related to vehicle maneuvers and stopping.
