Drunk Truck Driver Tears Up 50-Meters of Pavement in Tunnel

The driver reportedly had a blood alcohol level of 1.15 and refused to get into the ambulance.

A drunk truck driver ripped up a large portion of pavement while driving through a tunnel located in Thesprotia, in the northwest region of Greece, just before midnight on Wednesday.

According to reports, a Bulgarian truck driver lost control of the heavy vehicle and crashed into the pavement inside the tunnel.

As shown in photos published by thespro.gr, the impact was particularly severe. The truck tore up slabs and sections of the pavement over a stretch of about 50 meters before finally coming to a stop.

According to the same reports, the driver allegedly had a blood alcohol level of 1.15 and refused to board the ambulance that arrived at the scene. Even after Traffic Police arrived, he reportedly tried to drive away in the immobilized truck.

Traffic Police officers arrested him, while a queue of vehicles formed for some time until traffic was fully restored.

No injuries were reported in the accident. However, the damage inside the tunnel is described as extensive.

The tunnel, knows as ‘Psaka’, is part of the Greek highway ‘Egnatia Odos’, and the damage was caused in the lane heading north.
