The Easter holiday exodus is in full swing and traffic on the roads is exceptionally heavy. Almost all the major road arteries leading out of Attica are congested.
Where the biggest problems are occurring:
On Kifissos Avenue, heading toward Lamia, there is gridlock from Renti all the way to Kifissia, with vehicles at times coming to a complete standstill due to the heavy flow of traffic. On the Athens–Corinth highway, the main bottleneck is between Aigaleo and Skaramagkas, with further minor delays at the toll stations, in Nea Peramos, and in Megara. Serious problems are also being recorded on Attiki Odos (the Athens ring road), on the lane toward Elefsina, particularly at the exit toward Kifissos, in Gerakas, and in Marousi.
Heavy traffic at ports:
According to initial figures and estimates from the Coast Guard, for today, Holy Thursday, April 9, 2026, 20 departures have been scheduled from the port of Piraeus (Tzelépis Gate), carrying 20,225 passengers. For the Argosaronic Gulf, 23 departures of conventional passenger-car ferries and 15 hydrofoil services are planned, carrying 2,322 passengers. From Rafina, 11 ferry departures to the Cyclades are scheduled, with an estimated 7,440 passengers, plus four additional sailings to Marmari. From Lavrio, nine departures are planned, with passenger traffic estimated at 2,284.
