The Orthodox Easter holiday exodus continued at an undiminished pace on Thursday, with traffic particularly heavy on the Athens–Corinth national highway that leads to the Peloponnese and much of the western seaboard of Greece.

In the evening, traffic on the specific tollway began to ease, where earlier significant delays had been observed, especially on the stretch before the Elefsina toll post up to the town of Megara.
By contrast, traffic on the Athens–Lamia tollway moved more smoothly throughout the day without any problems.
According to police authorities, from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m., 47,930 vehicles were recorded on the Athens–Corinth highway, and 36,873 on the Athens–Lamia stretch, totaling 84,803 vehicles.
Tomorrow morning, Good Friday on the Orthodox ecclesiastical calendar, the last major wave of holiday travelers is expected to depart from the greater Athens-Piraeus area.
