An 89-year-old driver traveled for about 10 kilometers (roughly 6 miles) in the opposite lane of a major highway in northern Greece, triggering a traffic incident that left a woman injured, authorities said.

Video of the incident, which circulated on social media, shows the elderly man driving against oncoming traffic on a multi-lane highway near the city of Veria. According to officials, the driver had entered the highway from an interchange in the wrong direction and continued along the fast lane used by vehicles traveling normally.

During his drive, a 50-year-old woman encountered the oncoming car and tried to avoid a head-on collision. In her attempt to steer clear, she crashed into the central divider. She suffered injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Authorities said the elderly driver continued for several more kilometers after the crash. Police, who had been alerted to the situation, stopped and immobilized his vehicle at another highway interchange.

No further details were immediately released about his condition or potential charges. The incident has raised renewed concerns about road safety and the risks posed by wrong-way driving on high-speed highways.
