Authorities in Larissa, Greece, have taken legal action against a 78-year-old man who fatally injured a cat in the Agia municipality. The incident occurred on Monday morning, August 18, 2025, in the Velika area, when the man violently kicked a three-year-old stray cat, causing severe injuries that led to the animal’s death shortly after.
Despite the efforts of bystanders to save the cat, it did not survive. Following the incident, the man was arrested by police from the Agia Police Department and is being brought before the Larissa Public Prosecutor.
Under Greek animal welfare legislation, he has also been fined €30,000, reflecting the country’s stringent regulations against the mistreatment or killing of animals. Police confirmed that a formal case has been filed against the man for violating laws related to the welfare of companion animals.
This case comes amid growing attention in Greece to enforcing animal protection laws and holding offenders accountable.
