A pan-European anti-theft operation last month, code-named Joint Action Day (JAD) Mobile 8, also included Greece, with local authorities proceeding with thousands of checks on automobiles around the country and at border crossings.
Overall, a total of 462 stolen or forged vehicles were seized around Europe, 232 more than in a similar operation last year. Nearly half of the vehicles (232), in fact, were located in Greece.
Approximately 6,600 vehicles were checked in Greece. Moreover, 84 irregular migrants of various nationalities were arrested, along with 21 individuals charged as migrant traffickers. Another 16 EU member-states participated, along with Albania, Kosovo, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia and Switzerland, with the Europol and Interpol framework.
