An extremely high wildfire risk (Category 4) has been forecast for Sunday, July 27, across 11 regions of Greece, according to the latest assessment from the General Secretariat for Civil Protection of the Ministry for Climate Crisis and Civil Protection.

The regions facing the highest threat are:

• Ionian Islands
• Western Greece
• Peloponnese
• Central Greece
• Attica
• Epirus
• Western Macedonia (regional units of Florina, Kastoria, Kozani)
• Eastern Macedonia and Thrace (regional unit of Evros)
• Thessaly (regional units of Magnesia, Larissa, Trikala)
• South Aegean (regional unit of Rhodes)
• Crete

The General Secretariat has already alerted relevant state agencies and local authorities to be on heightened readiness and ensure rapid response capabilities in case of fire outbreaks.

Citizens are urged to exercise extreme caution and avoid any outdoor activities that could spark fires. This includes burning dry vegetation or branches, using machinery that generates heat or sparks, lighting outdoor grills, and smoking in fire-prone areas.

It is also strictly prohibited to burn fields during the fire prevention season.
