Protesting farmers and stockbreeders remained stationed at various roadblocks around the country on Thursday, Christmas Day, although authorities reported that holiday traffic on Greece’s highways was mostly unhindered, except in a few cases.

Producers’ groups are demanding lower production costs and better subsidies, among many other demands, from the government.

A new nationwide meeting of producers’ representatives is expected to take place on Sunday.

Where parked farm equipment continued to block traffic, police were diverting motorists onto side roads.

Representatives of protesting producers, at least in public statements, appear to be sticking to their positions, stating that they are determined to continue mobilizations if there are no clear guarantees from the government that their demands will be met.

At the same time, they have moved their tractors to the side of the road, facilitating traffic during the holiday season.
