The driver was sent to prison following his court hearing, facing felony charges for the deadly collision that killed one person and injured three others in Loutsa (Artemida) Eastern Attica, in the early hours of Sunday, November 30.

The accident claimed the life of a 24-year-old man, in front of his 21-year-old girlfriend, as well as her mother and sister. The victim had recently returned from Belgium, where he lived, to attend his girlfriend’s graduation ceremony. The young woman is still hospitalized with serious injuries.

Traces of cocaine were found in the defendant’s system. He also tested positive for alcohol, with a blood alcohol level of 0.63ml/l, exceeding the legal limit. During his court appearance, he requested a supplementary forensic analysis.

In his statement, the accused apologized to the victim’s family.

He reportedly said: “I cannot understand how I lost control of the vehicle. Everything happened when a car came out from the side street in front of me. To avoid it, I had to swerve, and that’s when I lost control. I do not rule out that there was a collision.”

Police sources also noted that the driver had previously been involved in a traffic incident in 2020, when he tested positive for cannabis use.
