The screening of the film “Arkoudotripa” in a village in Aigialeia was canceled following extreme homophobic reactions, according to the Aigio Film Club. The village is Paraskevi, though the club was quick to note in a Facebook post that “these reactions in no way represent the village’s residents as a whole.”
The Aigio Film Club made this unprecedented announcement, stating that it is canceling the screening of “Arkoudotripa,” which had been scheduled for Sunday, August 16, because of extreme homophobic reactions.
The club also stated clearly: “We want to make it clear, however, that these reactions in no way represent the village and its residents as a whole. We have maintained excellent relations with them in recent years, built on mutual respect.”
It also stressed that a new date and location will be set “so that this attempt to silence the seventh art does not ultimately succeed.”

“We would like to inform you that the highly anticipated screening of the film ‘Arkoudotripa,’ which was scheduled for Sunday, August 16 in the mountain village of Paraskevi in the Municipality of Aigialeia, has been canceled following extreme homophobic reactions from a small minority.
We want to make it clear, however, that these reactions in no way represent the village and its residents as a whole. We have maintained excellent relations with them in recent years, built on mutual respect.

The story
“Arkoudotripa” tells the story of two young women in rural Greece, whose relationship is tested when one of them becomes pregnant.
