The first snow of the season has arrived in Northern Greece, turning the country’s most iconic mountains into striking winter scenes. Mount Olympus, the legendary home of the Greek gods, was dusted with snow at elevations above 2,500 meters, marking the start of the colder months.
At the Kakalos Refuge, perched at 2,650 meters on Olympus, the temperature dropped to -1°C while dense clouds shrouded the peaks.
Ski enthusiasts may also look forward to the early snowfall at the Kaimaktsalan Ski Center in Pella, located at 2,380 meters, and the Falakro Ski Resort in Drama, both of which woke up to a fresh layer of snow. While ski season has not yet begun, the early weather hints at promising conditions ahead.
Local weather communities greeted the news with excitement. “We’re starting strong this year,” noted Meteoclub.
The current cold front is forecast to last until Friday, suggesting that Northern Greece’s winter landscapes are only just beginning to take shape, an early invitation for travellers seeking snow-covered peaks and mountain refuges.
