Friends of Victim Reveal 20-Year Abuse Before Kalamata Femicide

As relatives and neighbors speak out after the killing of a 39-year-old mother in Kalamata, a picture is emerging of years of alleged abuse, fear, and a planned escape that never happened

Friends and neighbors are beginning to speak out following the brutal killing of a 39-year-old woman by her husband in the southern Greek city of Kalamata, describing what they say was a 20-year nightmare she endured alongside the man who ultimately took her life. The suspect faces charges of intentional homicide and is expected to testify before a judge on Thursday.

The 41 year old man reportedly stabbed his wife 45 times in the early hours of Sunday, while their two children were asleep in the next room.

“She Was Planning to Leave… But Never Got the Chance”

Friends of the victim described her husband as controlling, violent, manipulative.

Those close to her described twenty-two years of fear and suffering. They also mentioned that Vasiliki had been planning to leave what had become a house of horror. She never got the chance.

One month ago, desperate for help, she visited a lawyer for advice. According to reports, she revealed that her husband had been abusing her for years.

Her fear was so overwhelming that just a few days later she sought out the lawyer again at the courthouse and said she would not proceed any further. The suspect’s mother has not spoken publicly about his alleged abusive behavior.

“She Was Afraid to Report Him”

In recent months, people had begun talking openly. Many in the community were aware, at least to some extent, of what was happening between Vasiliki and her husband.

She was afraid, however—afraid to reveal the truth. Even when police officers asked her what was happening inside the home, she reportedly replied that everything was fine.

Psychologists and specialists have now informed the couple’s two young daughters that their mother is no longer alive. What followed, according to reports, was heartbreaking.

Investigators have also reportedly found that the accused husband had installed listening devices inside the apartment and placed a GPS tracking device on her car.
