Greece’s postal service is reshaping its nationwide network to respond to the rapid growth of e-commerce and changing consumer habits, with 1,036 ELTA and ELTA Courier locations being transformed into multipurpose service points.

The new strategy, presented at the 90th Thessaloniki International Fair, is titled “Connecting Greece. In New Ways” and focuses on combining the organization’s physical presence with new digital capabilities.

ELTA CEO Michael Mavropoulos presented the new service model at the booth of the National Development Fund, explaining that the organization’s development plan aims to improve its financial sustainability while upgrading services and maintaining its social role.

From home delivery to out-of-home services

The decline of traditional letter mail and the rapid expansion of e-commerce have increased demand for alternative ways to send, collect and receive shipments.

According to ELTA, consumer preferences are also shifting from home delivery toward out-of-home delivery, prompting the postal operator to develop a more flexible service model with additional options for both consumers and businesses.

“We are using 1,036 ELTA and ELTA Courier stores and agencies, or ELTA points, and converting them into PUDO (Pick-Up/Drop-Off) locations,” Mavropoulos said.

He described the move as the first step toward the organization’s new service model, allowing customers to choose between digital services, home delivery or one of the physical ELTA points.

“The real strength of ours is that we combine the proximity of a truly nationwide network with technological developments,” he said.

1,500 postal workers support home delivery

While expanding its out-of-home network, ELTA will continue to provide nationwide home delivery.

Around 1,500 postal carriers and delivery workers support home delivery services across Greece, including in the country’s most remote areas.

Out-of-home services will also be expanded through new partnerships and additional service locations, giving customers more alternatives for receiving and sending shipments.

The new model is being supported by investments in digital infrastructure, with ELTA aiming to become a key partner for e-commerce and Greek businesses.

The organization says the combination of its physical network and digital services will provide businesses and consumers with more choices across the country.

ELTA and Eurobank expand banking services

The strategy also includes cooperation with Eurobank to broaden access to banking and financial services.

The partnership includes a pilot program for a new banking service model at 30 ELTA locations, comprising 10 central and 20 non-central stores.

The participating locations will provide banking transactions as well as the promotion and sale of banking products and services.
