Health authorities on the Greek island of Rhodes are concerned about a significant increase in gastroenteritis cases, with doctors reporting a noticeable rise in patients seeking medical care in recent weeks.

According to available data, 40 to 50 patients with gastroenteritis symptoms are arriving at emergency departments every day. At private medical practices, visits related to the illness account for between 40% and 60% of all appointments.

Gastroenteritis cases are reported on Rhodes every summer, but doctors say the increase this year is particularly noticeable.

No hospitalizations reported

Despite the rise in cases, no patients have so far required hospitalization, according to the available information.

Doctors are emphasizing the importance of strict personal hygiene practices to help prevent the spread of gastroenteritis, particularly amid the current increase in cases on the island.
