The suspects, aged 46 and 38, were arrested inside a technology store in Metamorfosi, a suburb of Athens. Police said they were linked to a total of 10 thefts, with the proceeds exceeding €9,000.

A case was filed against the two men for participating in a criminal group  carrying out professional and aggravated thefts.

How the thefts were carried out

According to the Hellenic Police, the investigation began after authorities recorded a series of thefts involving electronic products from technology stores in Attica.

Police said the suspects’ criminal activity is believed to have begun in April.

The two men were identified by authorities on Tuesday afternoon in Metamorfosi. Shortly before their arrest, they had attempted to steal electronic products from the same store.

During a search, police found a specially modified bag in their possession. According to authorities, the bag had been designed to prevent stolen products from activating the stores’ automatic security systems.

The preliminary investigation found that the suspects targeted electronics stores and entered them while they were operating. Posing as customers, they would place products inside the specially modified bags before leaving without triggering the stores’ security systems.

The two men were taken before a prosecutor.
