Μake us preferred on Google Greece has extended to 12 months the process for recording, allocating and advertising stall positions in open-air street markets, under Article 3 of an amendment submitted to the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection’s draft legislation.
Under the new rules, the original four-month deadline for marking and recording stall positions by officially recognised local vendors’ associations is extended to seven months. During the eighth month, authorities will publish provisional lists and open the objections process, while by the eleventh month they must complete the validation of the final lists and the allocation of positions.
From the eleventh month, regional authorities and the Operating Bodies for Street Markets in the Attica Region and the Metropolitan Unit of Thessaloniki will publish calls for all vacant positions. The available stalls will be divided equally between agricultural producers and professional vendors, maintaining a 50-50 allocation.
Ministry to Step In if Deadline Is Missed
Once 12 months have elapsed since the regulation takes effect, the regions and the relevant operating bodies in Attica and Thessaloniki must publish the final allocation tables and officially assign the positions.
If the process has not been completed by then, responsibility will automatically transfer to the Ministry of Development.
For markets where one or more stages of the procedure under Article 187 have already been completed, regional authorities and operating bodies will not be required to repeat those steps. Instead, they must complete the remaining procedures within the new 12-month timeframe.
The regulation took effect on August 29, 2026.
