Meteorologist Thodoris Kolydas has shared a new weather update on social media, outlining how conditions are expected to evolve over the coming weeks. According to his latest analysis, a new experimental 15-day ensemble forecast for Athens indicates that high temperatures will persist through the first days of July, with daytime highs reaching around or slightly above 35°C (95°F). A gradual cooling trend is expected to begin after July 4–5.
As he explains, “The wind forecast indicates strengthening northerly winds over the Aegean Sea and eastern mainland Greece after July 5, signaling a strengthening of the Meltemi”—the seasonal dry northerly winds that typically blow across the Aegean during the summer. “This change acts to suppress temperatures in Athens, preventing further warming and leading to a gradual decline in daytime highs.”

The new experimental 15-day ensemble forecast for Athens clearly shows that temperatures will remain at high levels through the first days of July, with maximum temperatures hovering around or slightly above 35°C (95°F). After that, and especially after July 4–5, the trend gradually begins to change.
The most interesting element emerges when this forecast is combined with the new ensemble wind product. The wind forecast shows strengthening northerly winds over the Aegean and eastern mainland Greece after July 5, indicating a stronger Meltemi. This change suppresses temperatures in Athens by limiting any further increase and gradually lowering daytime highs.
In simple terms, the temperature ensemble points to an initially hot period, while the wind ensemble explains why temperatures do not continue climbing afterward: the strengthening Meltemi after July 5 favors lower daytime highs, particularly across eastern and coastal parts of Attica.
