Greece Launches Campaign Against Drunk-Driving to Cut Road Deaths

The Hellenic Association of Insurance Companies is raising awareness about the dangers of driving under the influence of alcohol, focusing on prevention and reducing fatal crashes on Greek roads

The Hellenic Association of Insurance Companies has launched a new awareness campaign aimed at preventing road accidents caused by alcohol consumption and reducing deaths on the road.

The initiative focuses on highlighting the risks of driving under the influence of alcohol and encouraging safer behavior among drivers, as part of broader efforts to improve road safety in Greece.

Speaking to MEGA, Sandra Kokkonetsi, head of Communications and Public Relations at the Hellenic Association of Insurance Companies, said the campaign’s goal is to help prevent traffic accidents and reduce fatalities.

“It is an issue we will never stop addressing, as long as we continue losing young people on the roads,” Kokkonetsi said, adding that the association has consistently organized awareness actions and campaigns focused on preventing road accidents from different perspectives.

She noted that the organization works closely with traffic authorities, while the state has also placed road safety among its priorities through measures such as the updated road traffic code, cameras and increased checks.

“Society as a whole is aligned around this issue. The state has made efforts, with the new road traffic code, cameras, inspections and other measures. Traffic police carry out their work every day, and we as organizations have a responsibility to take action and help reduce deaths on the roads,” she said.

The association emphasized that its role extends beyond providing insurance coverage after accidents, highlighting its commitment to actively contributing to prevention and public awareness.
