With swings in international oil prices continuing to push up costs for consumers, the government is planning its next steps in the fuel market. According to government spokesman Pavlos Marinakis, the first announcements on motor fuels are expected on September 30, while a new package of measures, which will also include support for heating oil, will be presented on October 14.
Speaking at a briefing for political reporters, Marinakis explained that this time the motor fuel measures will apply for a 15-day period, because of the volatility in international oil prices.
The October 14 announcements will come just one day before heating oil goes on sale on October 15. By then, the government also expects to have a clearer picture of the pricing moves the fuel companies themselves will make.
The spokesman noted that the basic framework of the measures has already been presented by the prime minister, stressing that “the outline has already been given.”
