Greek authorities dealt one more serious blow to the drug smuggling cartels as officers of the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (IAPR) discovered and seized 29 kilograms of cocaine hidden inside a shipping container of bananas originating from Ecuador and destined for the port of Thessaloniki.

Specifically, following a routine sampling check, inspectors from the 1st Customs Office of Thessaloniki, northern Greece identified a suspicious organic substance using a mobile X-ray scanner. The substance was found concealed within the refrigeration units of a container carrying fresh bananas.

The inspectors, in collaboration with Hellenic Police law enforcement agents, immediately seized the narcotics and notified the competent prosecutorial authority.
