Greek authorities have arrested the mother of a 10-month-old infant who is being treated in hospital with severe injuries and signs of suspected abuse, according to local reports.

The baby, currently hospitalized at a pediatric facility in the city of Patras, is in serious condition. Doctors have diagnosed the child with osteomyelitis, a serious bone infection believed to have developed due to untreated fractures and poor living conditions.

Medical examinations revealed multiple injuries, including burns, fractures in both a leg and an arm, and bite marks on the infant’s body. Health officials described the child’s condition as particularly critical.

The case first came to light on March 13, when the mother brought the infant to a hospital in the western Greek city of Pyrgos. Doctors identified concerning injuries during the examination, prompting them to alert the police. However, the mother reportedly left the hospital with the child before further action could be taken.

Authorities have since taken the mother into custody as investigations into the circumstances surrounding the child’s injuries continue.
