Heavy rainfall has once again struck the Tzoumerka region in northern Greece, an area previously affected by severe weather last November, causing significant disruptions to roads and local infrastructure.
Authorities report rockfalls and road subsidence across the municipality of North Tzoumerka, alongside power outages in several villages. Areas most affected include Ampelochori, Michalitsi, Kallarytes, Matsouki, and Pramanta, where at least ten emergency machines are working to clear roads and ensure safe travel.
In Matsouki, power poles collapsed, leaving residents without electricity while crews from the Public Power Corporation (ΔΕΔΗΕ) work to restore service. Meanwhile, in Central Tzoumerka, rockfalls near Kataraktis and damage to the water supply network have been reported.
Meteorological stations recorded extreme rainfall over a few hours, with some locations receiving more than 130 millimeters. The heaviest rainfall was recorded in Theodoriana, Arta, with 138 mm, followed closely by Terovo, Ioannina (135.2 mm) and Pesta, Ioannina (111.4 mm). Other severely affected areas included Paramythia, Pramanta, and Vovousa.
Strong winds reaching up to 103 km/h were also reported in certain high-altitude locations, exacerbating the risk of flooding and damage.
The Regional Civil Protection Authority remains on high alert as ongoing rainfall could further impact roads and areas near rivers and streams, with emergency services prepared to respond to any incidents.
