Rail traffic on the Ano Liosia to Nea Peramos section, along with power supply on the Ano Liosia to Loutropyrgos section, had been suspended due to a wildfire in the Aspropyrgos area, west of Athens. Both were restored as of 10:15 a.m., according to an official update.
Hellenic Train announced that traffic and scheduling on the Athens Suburban Railway (Proastiakos) are expected to gradually return to normal.
The fire broke out shortly after 9pm on Tuesday and burned through low vegetation. A total of ten firefighters and three vehicles were called to contain the blaze, which was brought under control about an hour later.
According to Wednesday’s fire risk map, Aspropyrgos falls under a Category 3, or high fire risk, for the day.
