A strict traffic ban will be enforced in several parts of Halkidiki, northern Greece, as local authorities respond to a very high wildfire risk forecast for the region. The prohibition will apply to all pedestrian and vehicle movement starting from 8 a.m. on Tuesday, August 12, until 8 a.m. on Wednesday, August 13, 2025.
The decision, announced by the Halkidiki regional governor Katerina Zografou, affects municipalities including Kassandra, Sithonia, Aristotelis, and Polygyros. Specific restricted zones include:
- The Kassandra Peninsula, covering areas from Kassandrino to Agia Paraskevi along the “Koryfogrampi” ridge, plus Arapis and Chalkovouni near Paliouri village.
- The Sithonia Peninsula, particularly the “Koryfogrampi Dragoundeli” ridge stretching from the Beekeepers’ Cooperative to Sykiá village.
- The Aristotelis municipality, including the Komitsa area extending to Ouranoupoli, Tsamia Stratoni, Fysoka, and the Stratoni shooting range.
- The mountainous region of Holomontas, including reforestation zones near Vrastamon and the University Forest of Taxiarchis.
This temporary ban aims to prevent human activity from triggering fires in these highly vulnerable forested and rural areas. Residents and visitors are urged to comply strictly with the restrictions to help mitigate the risk of devastating wildfires during this critical period.
Local officials continue to monitor weather and fire conditions closely, ready to update measures as needed to protect Halkidiki’s natural environment and communities.
