The Botox boom is shedding its old reputation for secrecy. Millennials and Gen Z are embracing injectables not only earlier in life but also more openly, turning what was once a whispered topic into an everyday beauty choice. Industry experts told U.S. news outlet, Axios that patients are getting younger—and far more vocal—about their treatments.

The Numbers Tell the Story

According to data from Qsight, the generational gap in Botox use is rapidly closing. Gen X still leads, representing about 39% of neurotoxin procedures over the past year, but millennials are close behind at 35%. Gen Z, though still emerging, accounts for roughly 6% of patients—and in some regions, like Michigan, millennials have already overtaken Gen X.

From Secret to Social

C. Bob Basu, president of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, says injectables are no longer something people hide. “They’ve become something people share openly—with friends, coworkers, even on social media,” he told Axios.

Detroit-based cosmetic dentist Robert DiPilla has observed a surge of interest from younger clients and men, especially after the pandemic. For them, he says, it’s not just about erasing wrinkles but staying ahead of them. Preventative treatments now make up 30–40% of his practice.

Beyond Botox: The Rise of Fillers

Rebecca Small, a specialist in advanced aesthetic procedures, notes that the fascination doesn’t stop with Botox. Lip fillers using synthetic hyaluronic acid and jawline injections targeting the masseter muscles are gaining traction, offering either plumper lips or a slimmer facial profile. These choices reflect a broader shift toward maintenance and prevention rather than correction.

Beauty with Caution

While social media normalizes injectables, experts stress that these remain medical procedures. “They’re not quick fixes—they’re clinical treatments,” Basu reminds. Awareness, caution, and trust in qualified professionals are essential for safe, natural-looking results.
