Karpathos, the second-largest island in the Dodecanese, is being highlighted as one of Europe’s most promising “hidden gem” destinations once again, according to German travel platform Reisereporter. Praised for its authentic identity and natural beauty, the island appeals to visitors seeking experiences away from mass tourism.

The report emphasizes Karpathos’ picturesque villages, hiking trails, and remote beaches with crystal-clear waters, offering travelers a genuine taste of Greek hospitality and gastronomy. The traditional village of Olympos stands out as a cultural highlight, where local customs and slower-paced life remain vibrant compared to more frequented tourist spots.

This recognition aligns with efforts by the Karpathos municipality to boost the island’s profile in the German market. At the ITB 2026 travel fair, local officials met with Reisereporter contributors to promote the destination ahead of new direct flights from Düsseldorf, operated by Eurowings, starting next summer.
