A major water infrastructure project is moving forward in Kineta, a coastal community west of Athens, with authorities announcing the launch of the first phase of the local internal water supply network.

Nikos Hardalias, the regional governor of Attica, revealed details of the project during a site visit to inspect the progress of ongoing works that will transport water to the settlement. The first phase of the internal network has a budget of €17 million, forming part of a broader investment plan estimated at €30 million aimed at securing universal access to water for residents.

During his visit, Hardalias inspected construction works in the respective area, where one of the most technically demanding sections of the project—spanning approximately 2.5 kilometers—is currently underway. He also visited the Panorama Kineta water reservoir, which has a capacity of 3,000 cubic meters and will supply homes within the town’s urban plan.

After the inspection, the regional governor met with local residents, business owners and community representatives to discuss the project and other issues affecting the area.

Hardalias emphasized that solving Kineta’s long-standing water supply problem has been a priority since the beginning of his term. He highlighted cooperation between the regional administration, the local municipality and the public water company EYDAP to implement the plan.

“The right to water is no longer something to be claimed. It is a fundamental right of every citizen,” he said.

Water for Thousands of Homes

According to the regional administration, approval has recently been granted to move forward with the tender process for the next phase of the project, which will focus on building the internal distribution network. The second phase has secured initial funding of €10.5 million, in addition to €6.4 million already allocated for the first stage.

Authorities expect the construction contract to be awarded within the year. If the schedule proceeds as planned, the system will begin supplying water to 5,120 households in Kineta by the summer of 2028, marking a significant improvement for the local community’s infrastructure and daily life.
