The 43-year-old man and his 38-year-old partner accused in the death of their infant in Kypseli are expected to appear before an investigating magistrate Friday, as the investigation into the case continues.
The couple, who are already in pretrial detention in connection with a separate drug-trafficking case, are expected to request additional time to prepare their defense against the charges related to the infant’s death.
A 26-year-old Afghan man, who is also in pretrial detention, is expected to appear before the magistrate alongside them. He faces additional charges involving sexual acts with a minor in connection with the couple’s 15-year-old daughter.
Couple faces new charges over infant’s death
The proceedings concern the death of the couple’s infant, a case that was recently uncovered in the Athens neighborhood of Kypseli.
The 43-year-old man and the 38-year-old woman face charges related to the infant’s death, while authorities continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the case and events inside the apartment where the family lived.
The couple’s appearance comes as multiple legal proceedings involving the people connected to the apartment continue simultaneously.
43-year-old faces separate October trial
The 43-year-old man also faces a separate criminal case stemming from his first transfer to court.
He is scheduled to appear before a misdemeanor court on October 5 over a series of offenses, including multiple counts of attempted simple bodily harm, insulting behavior, threats, damage to property, violence against public officials and attempted escape from custody.
The case is separate from the investigation into the infant’s death and the drug-trafficking charges for which the man and his partner are currently being held in pretrial detention.
