The coroner found 18 knife wounds on the infant’s back, three inflicted before death and 15 after. A police spokesperson, Konstantia Dimoglidou, said investigators are also trying to determine whether the three minors found in the Kypseli apartment along with the 43 year old, the 38 year old, and a 26 year old Afghan man, a 15 year old girl and two boys aged 12 and 9, are in fact the couple’s biological children.
The forensic exam found no signs of recent sexual abuse in the three children. The two boys were diagnosed with sexually transmitted infections, and the 15 year old girl was found to be pregnant and struggling with drug addiction. She is currently undergoing further examination in hospital.
The 43 year old and his 38 year old partner faced extensive questioning both about the infant’s killing and about their decision to keep the body in a freezer. The man told police he “didn’t have the strength to bury” the infant, saying he feared that if the case came to light, social services would take away his other children as well.
A photo the man had posted on social media has raised further questions. It shows him with a woman and three other children, believed to be the 38 year old and the three minors found in the apartment, gathered around a baby stroller with an infant inside. The photo was posted on December 31, 2021, well before the date the 38 year old claimed the murdered infant was born.

Investigators found that the defendants and the children living with them moved residences repeatedly over the years. It was a landlord’s search for unpaid rent on the short term rental apartment they occupied in central Athens that led to the discovery of an unprecedented crime: a dead infant, frozen, hidden inside a suitcase the man and his partner had packed, apparently ready to flee.
Another suitcase in the apartment contained a shovel, sexual devices, and a camera, whose contents are now expected to undergo frame by frame analysis in police forensic labs. The 38 year old reportedly told authorities the infant was her own child, saying it had died eight months earlier and that she had kept the body in the freezer since.
Authorities are examining the phones and computers found in the Kypseli apartment, while a prosecutor’s order has been issued for DNA testing of the defendants and the minors, to establish the real family relationships between them and confirm the infant’s identity.
