Greek police have arrested three people after uncovering a fully equipped hydroponic cannabis-growing facility in the Attica region, which includes Athens.
The operation was carried out Monday afternoon, Oct. 19, by officers from the Narcotics Subdivision of the Directorate for Combating Organized Crime, a Greek police service also known as the country’s “FBI.”
Three people, aged 27, 49 and 54, were arrested in connection with the case.
Police initially located the 54-year-old man, who is alleged to be the group’s leader, and the 49-year-old woman inside a car. During a search of the vehicle, officers found large bags containing 27 kilograms of cannabis cuttings. The material was allegedly being transported to the 27-year-old suspect.
Further investigation led police to the cannabis-growing facility, where they found 255 plants reaching up to 1.6 meters in height.
Authorities estimated that processing the plants could have generated profits of about €200,000.
Police seized a total of 27.6 kilograms of cannabis cuttings, the 255 plants and 120 grams of raw cannabis. They also confiscated €3,620 in cash, a passenger vehicle, seven mobile phones and two electronic scales.
The equipment found at the facility included 29 LED lighting panels, 56 plant pots, 10 floor fans, two thermometers, four one-liter containers of liquid fertilizer, a duct fan, 29 transformers and ventilation equipment.
Police also found five bags, each containing two vacuum bags, along with a plastic water bottle.
The three suspects were taken before the competent prosecutorial authority. One of them had previously come to the attention of authorities for similar and other offenses.
