Man Arrested After Dog Bites Pedestrian in Thessaloniki

A 59-year-old man was taken to hospital after being bitten by a dog on Thessaloniki's waterfront, while the animal's caretaker was arrested and faces negligence-related charges.

A 49-year-old man has been arrested after a dog under his care attacked and injured a pedestrian on Thessaloniki’s waterfront, police said.

The incident occurred at around 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday along the city’s seafront promenade, where a 59-year-old man was bitten by the dog and sustained an injury to his right thigh.

An ambulance transported the victim to a local hospital, where he received first aid for his injuries.

According to police, the dog belongs to the suspect’s wife, but it was under the 49-year-old’s supervision at the time of the attack. The man, a Bulgarian national, was arrested following a complaint filed with the authorities.

Prosecutors have brought charges against him for negligent bodily harm, as well as violations of Greece’s legislation governing companion animals.
